Are Terps USA Products Safe? An Honest Answer

We get this question constantly, and we're going to answer it straight instead of dodging it with marketing language.

No form of inhalation is "safe" in the way that word gets used casually. The California Department of Public Health puts it plainly: people take on risk any time they inhale a foreign substance into their lungs [1]. That's not a Terps USA disclaimer — that's a state public health agency describing smoking and vaping as categories, full stop, independent of brand, ingredient quality, or price point.

We're not going to pretend otherwise to make a sale.

What "Safe" Actually Means Here

Combustion produces byproducts. Vaporization, even at controlled temperatures, still delivers an aerosol your lungs were never designed to process. This is physics and biology, not a Terps USA problem or a competitor's problem — it applies to anything you smoke or vape, regardless of what's in it. The CDC has been direct about this for years: vaping devices generally deliver fewer harmful chemicals than the roughly 7,000 found in cigarette smoke, but fewer is not the same as none, and that gap does not add up to "safe" [2].

That baseline exists before anyone adds a terpene spray, before anyone loads a cartridge, before anyone lights anything. It's already true of the plant material itself.

What We Actually Control — And What We Don't

Here's the distinction that matters, and it's the one most companies in this space aren't willing to draw clearly.

What we control: the ingredients that go into our products before they reach you, and full disclosure of what those ingredients are. That's not the same claim for every product line, and we're not going to blur that line to make the messaging cleaner.

Our terpene sprays are formulated without propylene glycol (PG) or polyethylene glycol (PEG) carriers — a PG/PEG-free formulation is the safety baseline for a product applied directly to flower that gets combusted. Our Liquidizer line is different by design: it uses PG and/or PEG as a viscosity carrier, because that's the ingredient pairing that reliably thins concentrate to a workable consistency for cartridges. PG and PEG are FDA GRAS-designated, and the studies most often cited to raise alarm about them — including the widely circulated 230°C combustion study — used testing temperatures well above what an actual vape device reaches in normal use, a methodology gap we've documented directly [3]. We formulate and test for real-world use temperatures, not worst-case lab conditions built to produce a headline.

Every product also avoids vitamin E acetate, the additive the CDC identified as the primary driver of the 2019 EVALI lung injury outbreak [4] — that one is a hard line across our entire catalog, spray and Liquidizer alike.

What we don't control: everything that happened to your flower or concentrate before it got to us — or before it got to you. We have no visibility into what pesticides or growth regulators were applied during cultivation, how a concentrate was extracted, what solvents may or may not have been fully purged, or how mold or microbial issues on the original plant material may have been "solved" upstream. We also don't control your device, your temperature settings, how often you use it, or your own health history. None of that is within our reach, and it would be dishonest to imply otherwise by staying silent about it.

Terps USA products are terpene formulations and post-harvest processing tools. They do not contain cannabis, THC, or CBD. Whatever risk exists in the product you're applying them to exists independent of us, and we're not in a position to evaluate, certify, or take responsibility for it.

Where That Leaves You

If you're looking for a product that will tell you inhaling anything is risk-free, that's not us, and honestly, we'd be skeptical of anyone who tells you that. What we can put our name behind is this: we use quality-tested, botanically-sourced ingredients, we disclose what's in our formulations, and we don't cut corners with cheap carriers or additives that have a documented history of harming people. That's the part of the equation we own.

The part we don't own — the underlying product, the device, the frequency, the choice to inhale something at all — is yours. That's not a loophole in our messaging. That's just where our responsibility actually ends and yours begins.
